While in Brunswick County, North Carolina she has been a member of: Waterway Art Association, Wilmington Art Association, Brunswick Arts Council. She regularly participates in juried & non-juried shows. Regularly availing herself of workshops, classes, and seminars in both locations has helped hone her skills and develop her talent. Through the years, she has won a number of awards for her work. Commissioned work is also a challenge that Charlene enjoys.
During the late ‘60s - early ‘80s, in rural Middleboro, MA, Charlene (Murphy) was encouraged to pursue her artistic interests. Senior year she won a scholarship and graduated from an International Baccalaureate Program at Daycroft School in Greenwich, CT. Her college years took her to the College of Wooster, in Wooster, OH, transferring back to Boston, where she received a BSBA in Finance from Suffolk University. Later, after marrying (Conway), and while raising her family and teaching, she pursued a Masters of Technology in Education from Lesley University.
With her remarriage in 2013, to husband Ben, she left teaching. This provided the opportunity to focus her attention on painting. For ten years they lived in Wareham, MA and snowbirded in Sunset Beach, NC. In 2023, they made Lakeville, MA their permanent year-round home. Living on the southern shore of Assawompset Pond, Charlene has a constant source of inspiration and a peaceful studio space for her current artistic pursuits.
